Korea Foundation-LSE Academic Exchange Programme

 

 

In 2007, the Korea Foundation and the LSE signed an Agreement to establish and operate the Korea Foundation- London School of Economics and Political Science Academic Exchange Programme at the Asia Research Centre of the LSE. Funded for three years initially through the generosity of the Korea Foundation, this programme aims to facilitate social science research on Korea and the understanding of Korea in the context of Asia and the wider world. This new programme was formally launched at the start of academic year 2008/09 with an inaugural Public Lecture (see below).

Korean Fellow 2010-11

The Asia Research Centre (ARC), London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) invites applications from prominent Korean scholars for its Korea Foundation-LSE Academic Exchange Programme Fellowship.

A selected Korean Fellow will be based at the Asia Research Centre at LSE for a minimum of three months up to a maximum of nine months during the LSE Academic Year 2010-11 and conduct her/his own proposed research.

The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £2,100 per month, the exact amount dependant on qualifications, and will be provided with office space and access to research facilities at the School.

Korean nationals who are either post-doctoral researchers, early to mid-career practitioners or of all grades in the field of social sciences from Korean academic/research institutions or relevant government agencies are eligible without regard to institutional affiliation.

Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in a social scientific discipline and have a proven or emerging track record of research and publications in a relevant field. Successful candidates will need excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Applications will not be accepted via fax under any circumstances. Applications should include one page covering letter, a curriculum vitae of no more than four pages and an outline of proposed research of no more than four pages. Please use A4-sized plain paper only. Please do not staple your application. Applicants should also give the names and addresses of two referees, familiar with their work, to be contacted by the Convenor.

Closing date for applications is Monday, 24th May 2010. It is anticipated that interviews will take place in Korea in mid to late June 2010.

Public Lecture & Seminar series

The Korea Foundation- LSE Academic Exchange Programme also features public lecture and seminars to highlight social science research of importance and interest to Korea as well as Korea-related issues within an international context. The Inaugural Public Lecture was held on Tuesday 14 October and featured Professor Ha-Joon Chang of Cambridge University. A recording of this lecture may be found on the LSE podcast website.
